Olivia De Havilland American Actress in  1930s & 40s.	Charles Kingsford-Smith Australian Aviator set records in the 1920s & 30s.	Duke of Wellington  famous general at Waterloo and later Prime Minister of England from  1828 till 1830.

Capt. Mayne Reid author wrote "Rifle Rangers" "Boy Hunters" etc.	Samuel Plimsoll made the Plimsoll line compulsory on ships for safe loading.	Oswald Mosley  the British blackshirt (nazi) during the WW2.
Frances Hodgson Burnett author of "Little Lord Fauntleroy" "The Secret Garden" etc.	Baroness Orczy author of the Scarlet Pimpernel books.	Sir Edmund Hillary The first man to  climb Mt. Everest.

Peter Snell the Olympic gold medal winner in the 1960 & the 1964 games.

Tex Ritter, father of the actor John Ritter, and an actor & country & western singer in his own right.

Jack LOVELOCK    Dr John Edward (Jack) Lovelock (1910-1949) won the 1500 metres at the 1936 Berlin Olympic games. He attended Temuka, Fairlie and Timaru schools and went to Oxford in 1931 on a Rhodes scholarship and was a Manhattan doctor at the time of his death. He died beneath a train in Brooklyn, New York.  Lovelock's mementos are now on display in a special Memorial Library at Lovelock's former school, Timaru Boys High.  Athletics for Health : running theory & practice written and published by himself.
